ANPR Car Park Management Built Around Your Site

Parking Patrol provides a UK-wide ANPR parking service for private and commercial car parks. Cameras positioned at suitable access points read vehicle registrations as cars enter and leave, creating time-stamped records that can be matched with the rules selected for the site.

Your setup can support maximum-stay parking, customer validation, staff and visitor lists, digital permits, paid parking or authorised access. The purpose is not simply to install cameras: it is to create a parking arrangement that protects availability without making the experience unnecessarily difficult for genuine users.

We assess the entrances, traffic flow, existing signs, permitted users and parking behaviour before recommending ANPR. Where another approach would suit the location better, we can discuss wider parking solutions.

    Benefits of ANPR Parking Management

    A well-designed ANPR car park system can provide consistent vehicle monitoring while reducing reliance on paper tickets and constant manual patrols. The precise benefits depend on the site, selected rules and integrations.

    Continuous Vehicle Monitoring

    A suitable system can record vehicle entry and exit throughout the car park’s operating hours.

    Less Reliance on Constant Patrols

    Automated reads reduce the need for every parking event to be checked manually on site.

    Ticketless and Barrier-Free Options

    ANPR can support digital payments, maximum stays and permits without paper tickets or barriers where the site allows.

    Client Reporting and Insight

    Reporting can provide visibility over vehicle activity, stay patterns and busy periods.

    Remote Evidence and Review

    Time-stamped records can support a managed, non-confrontational review process away from the car park.

    Configured for the Site

    Maximum stays, approved vehicles, payments, permits and exemptions can be configured around the location.

    // survey, installation and management

    How ANPR Installation and Management Works

    1. Site survey: we review access points, layout, traffic flow, current controls, authorised users and the parking problem.
    2. Scheme design: the proposed rules, camera positions, signs, permits, payments, exemptions and reporting requirements are agreed.
    3. Installation and setup: suitable cameras and signs are installed and the selected lists, tariffs or maximum stays are configured.
    4. Testing and launch: reads, timestamps, connections and user journeys are checked before the system becomes operational.
    5. Ongoing management: the site can be monitored, evidence reviewed and settings or authorised vehicles managed through the agreed service.

    The installation method and connectivity depend on the location. Where suitable, wireless connectivity can reduce the need for extensive site infrastructure.

    // protect access for genuine users

    Parking Problems ANPR Can Help Solve

    ANPR is most useful when a recurring vehicle or duration problem can be addressed through clear site rules. Common examples include:

    • commuters or non-customers occupying customer spaces;
    • vehicles staying beyond a clearly stated maximum period;
    • unauthorised use of staff, resident or visitor parking;
    • difficulty maintaining physical permits or paper tickets;
    • limited visibility over when and how the car park is used; and
    • the need to validate genuine customers, visitors or contractors.

    ANPR is not automatically the answer to bay-level misuse, several uncontrolled access points or problems requiring an on-site presence. In those situations, car park wardens, self-ticketing or a combined approach may be more suitable.

    What Your ANPR Parking System Can Include

    The scope is selected around the property rather than applied as a standard package. Depending on the site, the service can include:

    • fixed entry and exit number-plate cameras;
    • maximum-stay or customer-only parking rules;
    • staff, resident, visitor and contractor authorisation lists;
    • digital permits and vehicle whitelisting;
    • payment, pay-on-exit or customer-validation workflows;
    • barrier or access-control integration where appropriate;
    • client reporting and parking-activity insight;
    • clear entrance, contractual and privacy signage; and
    • managed review and enforcement processes.

    The survey establishes which elements are necessary and whether the entrance layout, lighting, power and connectivity can support the proposed configuration.

    // enforcement, access and insight

    ANPR Enforcement, Access Control and Reporting

    An ANPR camera creates evidence; it should not make an unchecked enforcement decision. Vehicle reads and timestamps need to be accurate, relevant parking terms must be applied and appropriate consideration, grace and exemption processes must be taken into account.

    Where a recorded event indicates that the displayed parking terms may have been breached, the evidence can be reviewed before a Parking Charge Notice is issued. Authorised and exempt vehicles can be managed through the agreed lists or validation process.

    Reporting can help site teams understand activity, busy periods and stay patterns. Parking Patrol can also provide the required ANPR parking signs and support responsible data handling as part of the management setup.

    Why Choose Parking Patrol for ANPR?

    • UK-wide service: support for individual car parks and multi-site requirements.
    • Site-specific recommendations: the proposed controls reflect the layout, users and actual parking problem.
    • Installation and management: cameras, signs, configuration and ongoing operation can be brought together through one service.
    • Recognised memberships: Parking Patrol is an IPC Accredited Operator Scheme member and a British Parking Association member.
    • Alternative controls available: if ANPR is not the right fit, we can discuss wardens, self-ticketing and wider car park management.
    • Free site survey: establish suitability and scope before committing to a configuration.

    How Much Does an ANPR Parking System Cost?

    The cost and commercial model depend on the size and layout of the car park, number of access points, camera and connectivity requirements, signage, payment or permit integrations and the level of ongoing management required.

    A simple single-entrance car park will not need the same setup as a busy multi-access or mixed-use site. The free survey allows us to understand the requirement and explain the recommended scope and commercial terms without inventing a one-size-fits-all price.

    // questions before choosing ANPR

    ANPR Parking System FAQs

    What is an ANPR parking system?

    An ANPR parking system uses cameras and optical character recognition to read vehicle registrations at suitable access points. The records can be matched with entry and exit times, payments, permits, authorised vehicle lists or maximum-stay rules to support management of a private car park.

    Can a business use ANPR on private land?

    Yes, where there is a genuine and lawful purpose and the system is used proportionately. The organisation responsible for the system must address data protection, privacy information, retention, security and clear signage. A site survey should confirm that ANPR is suitable for the location and problem.

    Do ANPR parking systems need barriers?

    Not necessarily. ANPR can support barrier-free parking by recording vehicles at the entrance and exit. It can also integrate with barriers where physical access control is required. The appropriate option depends on the site layout and intended user journey.

    What site conditions does ANPR require?

    ANPR normally needs defined vehicle access points, suitable camera positions, readable signs and appropriate power or connectivity. Lighting, approach angles, traffic flow, exemptions and the way genuine users will register or pay also need to be assessed.

    What does ANPR installation include?

    The scope can include a site survey, system design, cameras, connectivity, signs, payment or permit configuration, approved vehicle lists, testing and ongoing management. Parking Patrol will explain the proposed equipment and responsibilities for the individual site.

    How much does an ANPR parking system cost?

    Cost depends on the number of entrances and exits, camera and connectivity requirements, signs, integrations, car park size and level of ongoing management. Parking Patrol offers a free site survey so the recommended scope and commercial terms can be based on the actual location.

    Do ANPR cameras issue parking fines automatically?

    The camera records vehicle information and timestamps; it does not itself issue a fine. If reviewed evidence indicates that clearly displayed private parking terms were breached, the operator may issue a Parking Charge Notice through the applicable process. Evidence quality, exemptions and relevant consideration or grace periods must be taken into account.

    How do grace periods work in ANPR car parks?

    ANPR timestamps do not remove the need to apply the relevant consideration and grace periods. The exact rules depend on the type of parking and applicable code. Read our parking grace period guide for a fuller explanation.
